Schal International, Tarmac's construction management arm, is to
oversee the design and construction of a new œ20 million
British embassy in Berlin on behalf of the Foreign Office.
The embassy will be built in the heart of Berlin at Pariserplatz
next to the Brandenburg Gate on the site of the original British
pre-war embassy. The design and construction process will be
particularly complicated because of the number of new buildings
going up in the locale.
Stanhope Properties will be helping Schal in the feasibility and
sketch design phase of the embassy. Architects and other
consultants will be appointed at the end of the year. Construction
is planned to start in 1996 with completion in 1998.
l Tarmac has been awarded a œ7 million contract by Hamon Power
Systems to build four precast concrete cooling towers for a power
station in North Wales. The 140m-long, 20m- wide and 23m-high
hybrid towers will be supplied by Tarmac Precast Concrete. The
1,400MW combined cycle gas turbine power station on the River Dee
at Connah's Quay, Clwyd is being built by GEC Alsthom for Powergen.
