Shimizu lights up in Manchester
Japanese contractor Shimizu UK is to design and build a œ47
million manufacturing plant at Giants Field in Trafford Park for
The Manchester Tobacco Company (MTC), a subsidiary of Japan
Tobacco. The 32,200m2 plant will be built on a 7ha site acquired
from Trafford Park Development Corporation (TPDC).
Work is due to start on site this summer and the aim is to have the
plant operational in spring 1996. MTC is relocating from its
existing plant at Ludgate Hill, Manchester which cannot cope with
further expansion. The move takes MTC closer to the motorway
network and Manchester Airport.
Giants Field is being developed by TPDC and Amec Developments. Amec
was to have begun speculative development on the site, but came to
an agreement to free up the land which helped secure the MTC
investment.
