l Brits win in Hong Kong
British contractors have snatched the lion's share of œ70
million-worth of new contracts on Hong Kong airport. A joint
venture between Gammon Construction (50% owned by Trafalgar House)
and Japan's Nishimatsu has a HK$465 million (œ40 million)
contract to construct the foundations of the 1.2km-long airport
passenger terminal. A China Fujian/ Downer/Alfred McAlpine
consortium has won a HK$124 million (œ10.7 million) contract
for temporary utilities, roads and bridges on the project.
l Tarmac Construction's head
Douglas Watkinson has been appointed managing director of Tarmac
Construction International, based in Wolverhampton. Watkinson, 46,
a chartered civil engineer, will be responsible for developing and
expanding Tarmac's international civil engineering business.
l Pegson goes public
Plant manufacturer Pegson is to go public next month, seven years
after being the subject of a management buy out. The mbo team is
selling 40% of the company which is valued at around œ12
million. The current owners purchased Pegson for œ1.2 million
in 1987.
l Harris gets Scottish office
Cost consultant EC Harris has incorporated Edinburgh-based project
manager Gibson & Simpson into its operations, giving the firm
its first Scottish office.
l Italian Electric to be valued
Consultant Merz and McLellan is to review the asset valuation and
capital expenditure programme of ENEL, Italy's national electric
company, which has a turnover of œ17.6 billion, prior to it
being privatised.
l Scots to see œ300m of roads
More than œ300 million worth of new roads in Scotland have
been given the go-ahead by Scottish secretary Ian Lang. Thirteen
projects are to start over the next three years, including further
upgrades on the A1, A74 and on the motorway network in central
Scotland.
l J&B assets raise œ200,000
Over œ200,000 has been raised from the sale of assets which
belonged to former Cambridge based contractor Johnson &
Bailey,which crashed with debts of more than œ2 million.
