Laing has been awarded a œ28 million retail and office
development in the City of London by London and Manchester
Assurance Company. The 11-storey building will be built at Finsbury
Pavement. It consists of three storeys of basement car park and
plant rooms, eight floors of offices and a retail area including a
store for Marks and Spencer.
The building was designed by architect Sheppard Robson, who have
incorporated various energy saving measures into the project. These
include a triple-skin glazing system with motorised solar blinds to
help reduce air conditioning costs. A reinforced concrete frame
will be used with metal and glass cladding. A steel and glass
curved facade will mark the entrance to the office accommodation.
The retail section consists of a 'shell' building on five floors,
including a two-storey basement, with external cladding and shop
fronts. This element of the scheme will be handed over in September
1995 for fitting out.
The office section will be completed in July 1996.
