The long dig is ended
An 80t tunnel boring machine used to construct a major trunk sewer
for Leicester has reached the end of its drive after more than a
year underground. The œ15 million Abbey Sewer project,
commissioned by Severn Trent Water, was designed by Haswell
Consulting Engineers and constructed by Balfour Beatty Civil
Engineering. The TBM drove 6km of tunnel, negotiating crossings of
the River Soar, the Grand Union Canal, a large man-made lake and a
landfill site.
