Greens disrupt Tarmac agm
Environmental protestors have disrupted Tarmac's AGM for the second
year running. A group of 30 anti-roads protestors gathered with
banners outside the QE2 centre where the meeting was held. And half
a dozen who had bought shares to gain entry heckled Sir John Banham
during questions. They quizzed repeatedly over the 'discrepancy'
between Tarmac's stated concern for the environment and its 'role
in the destruction' of Twyford Down and the nature park at Cuerden
Valley, in Lancashire.
In response Tarmac announced it had carried out a root and branch
appraisal of its environmental performance, and would be publishing
a detailed corporate policy. A high level panel of independent
experts would also be appointed, under the chairmanship of Sir
John, to monitor Tarmac's adherence.
