Record Ghana win for TH
Trafalgar House has won its largest ever contract in Ghana, a
œ19 million project to construct 2,698 primary school
buildings throughout the country.
The work will be carried out over the next 27 months in nearly
1,500 villages and towns.
The schools are spliced timber portal frame structures covered in
corrugated aluminium sheeting, 5m wide and 25m long. The buildings
are raised up on steel supports to protect the timber from
termites.
Most of the materials are being sourced from within the country.
Material storage and distribution depots will be established in
eight regional centres. The company faces some severe logistical
problems as some of the villages are only accessible by foot or
canoe.
42 trucks are being purchased to transport the required 375,000
tonnes of materials. 32 building teams will be formed to supervise
the locals who will help construct the schools.
