The Costain/Taylor Woodrow joint venture has been awarded a
subcontract, worth between œ10 and œ15 million, for the
running tunnels between Waterloo and London Bridge on the Jubilee
Line Extension. The main contractor is the Japanese/French
consortium, Aoki/Soletanche.
The Costain/Taywood jv is main contractor at London Bridge and is
constructing the new underground station that will interface with
the running tunnels. A spokesman says the contract is very
straightforward for the jv as it literally just has to continue
tunnelling on from their own NATM tunnel.
The work involves two parallel drives from London Bridge to just
east of Waterloo Station, with a crossover section and a step plate
junction at the London Bridge end.
NATM will be used for the westbound drive shield chamber, crossover
tunnel and step plate junction. The total drive is 2,500m in London
Clay, with all operations carried out from shafts at Redcross Way,
near London Bridge.
The jv will use a 4.8m cut Dosco roadheader shield boring machine
for the main tunnels. The lining will be mostly 12 plate concrete
expanded ring. The tunnels will drive straight through the
Southwark station site.
