Amey/Wimpey jv wins Bedford bypass
An Amey/Wimpey joint venture has been awarded the contract to
construct the œ39 million A428 Bedford southern bypass, as
tipped in CJ, 12 May.
The new road will take the A428 3km to the south of Bedford town
centre to join up with the A421 Kempston southern relief road.
The works comprise 8.4km of dual carriageway with three
grade-separated interchanges. A 400m-long viaduct across the flood
plain of the River Ouse is to be built, along with eight other
bridges. Work is due to finish summer 1996.
Trafalgar House is thought to have been runner up, while tenders by
Miller, Laing, Kier/Hochtief and Christiani & Nielsen/May
Gurney were eliminated earlier.
