Lunatic fringe roads protestors up the stakes
Anti-roads campaigners are resorting to more violent means as their
attempts to delay construction projects are frustrated.
Police in Bath this week put on show a collection of old metal
files that had been sunk into the ground, points uppermost, to try
to injure employees of Amey, the contractor working on the
Batheaston bypass.
A security firm working for several contractors says its staff were
fired on by crossbows.
Guards working for another security firm were pushed under a
digger.
At the M11, campaigners are using staple guns to 'armour plate' the
outside of tree trunks, hoping to damage contractors'
equipment.
Despite the increased activity of anti-roads protestors, the
Highways Agency claims no scheme has fallen behind schedule.
Campaigners are seeking to increase the pressure on the M3 Twyford
Down scheme by staging a demonstration at the site this weekend,
which police are confident will be peaceful.
