BB/Kier-NH contend for Clwyd Bridge
The competition to win the contract for a œ38 million cable
stayed bridge over the River Dee in Clwyd looks to have narrowed
down to a race between Balfour Beatty and a joint venture between
Kier and Norwest Holst. Bids by Amec, Birse/Bilfinger & Berger
and Nuttall/Hochtief now appear to be out of the running.
The tender process has slowed down considerably in the last week or
two as the client, Clwyd County Council, studies the various
alternatives that have been submitted. The 30 week project is due
to start sometime in August. The work involves constructing a 950m
crossing of the Dee with a 200m single-span, asymmetric,
cable-stayed bridge. Also included are approach viaducts, a
grade-separated junction and 4km of dual carriageway roads.
