'No CONDAM delay' - Forsyth
Employment Minister Michael Forsyth this week told officials of
construction union UCATT that there was no delay in the
introduction of the new CONDAM health and safety regulations.
In a meeting on Tuesday Forsyth said he would not just rubberstamp
the rules but would sign them when a consensus had been reached
with the architects who he confirmed were objecting to the
regulations.
Forsyth has had the regulations for three months. They were
expected to be laid before Parliament on 1 July for implementation
on 1 October.
UCATT General Secretary George Brumwell said: 'The Minister has
given us some assurance that he has no objections to the CDM
regulations. We hope he will also make every effort to persuade the
small minority of people in the industry of the value of the regs
to the health and safety of construction workers.'
