Tools to dredge the ocean depths

New interchangeable tools are now available for Alluvial Mining's Tramrod 250 tracked seabed dredge vehicle. Recently fitted with a heavier boom, the vehicle can now be equipped to operate in a variety of different seabed materials.

The conventional jetpump can be combined with a mechanical bucketwheel cutter capable of tackling soils up to 500kpa, and slicing through softer materials at rates of up to 60m3/hr. A dedicated cable plow and trencher, modelled on land cable-laying vehicles, is also new, and can cut trenches 1.5m deep in hard clays and rocks, and then backfill using a specially designed anti-friction scraper blade fitted to the front of the vehicle. And for wider trenching in rock, a precision drum cutter is now available. This hydraulic, double-headed tool works with a grinding action, cutting smoothly and accurately at high speed.

With its new range of tools, the Tramrod 250 can be used in a wide range of applications, in outfall, pipeline and cable trenching, seabed levelling and reclamation, and construction of underwater foundations.
