Tsing Ma cable spinning to begin
Cable spinning on the œ550 million Tsing Ma bridge in Hong
Kong can now begin following the successful completion of a massive
logistical operation to deliver 30,000t of cable wire to the
site.
Cleveland Structural Engineering is awaiting a final 800t delivery
which is now being delivered from UK manufacturer European Bridge
Wire to the site at Ma Wan island.
The 175,000km of 5.3mm dia high tensile galvanised steel wire will
now be aerial spun at an average of 160t a day for the next eight
months by the bridge construction group to form the 1.1m dia
suspension cables for the new crossing.
The bridge, which is being built by the Anglo/Japanese joint
venture which includes Costain and Trafalgar House, is 2,200m long
and is designed to serve Hong Kong's new airport.
