œ18m NatWest refurb up for grabs
Tenders are due out at the end of this year for an œ18 million
redevelopment of National Westminster Bank's premises at 1 Princes
Street, near the Bank of England, in the City of London.
The 1931 building has been altered many times, but has remained
vacant for some years. Three panelled rooms surviving from the
original building will be removed, rebuilt and restored on the new
first floor. The banking hall and its dome will also be restored to
the original designs and used as a new retail outlet for the bank.
The existing six upper floors will be gutted and rebuilt within the
existing shell to provide 7,360m2 of new office space. There will
also be extensive repairs to the outside of the building's Portland
stone facade. The windows and roof will also undergo refurbishment.
Architect for the project is TP Bennett Partnership.
