Four firms are vying for a œ20 to œ25 million package of
contracts to upgrade Middlehaven docks in Middlesbrough.
Harbour and General/Volker Stevin, Balfour Beatty, Tarmac and
Taylor Woodrow are hoping to win the design and construct
contracts, which involve site clearance/reclamation and the
provision of infrastructure. The idea is to prepare a number of
areas in the docks and make them available for developers. The
client is Teesside Development Corporation.
The contracts cover a variety of work: demolition and site
clearance; land reclamation and earthworks; maritime dock walls;
refurbishment of existing dock structure; roads, bridges; hard and
soft landscaping; car parking; infrastructure services; and
enabling works for Middlesbrough FC's new football stadium, which
is to be built by Tilbury Douglas - (see story above).
The Corporation and its project managers, Ove Arup, have divided
the work into four packages. The first went out this Monday, the
second will go out later this month, and a third in September. The
date of the final package is dependant on discussions with
Cleveland Council.
