Chunnel gets new terminals
Two Channel Tunnel rail freight and distribution terminals were
launched last week; one at part of the former Leyland Daf site in
East Lancashire and another at Corby.
Lancashire Enterprises acquired 121ha of land as part of the
Leyland Trucks rescue package last year. Development of the site is
estimated to cost between œ70 and œ100 million. Work on
the rail terminal is due to begin soon, while a bid to attract
120,00m2 of new industrial and commercial projects will be spread
over 10 years.
Meanwhile, a joint venture between Kingspark Developments, British
Steel and Corby District Council has lodged a planning application
for an 84ha freight distribution centre near the A43. Work on the
first phase of Corby Rail Freight Park is scheduled to begin in
October.
Two car distribution companies, Gefco and Autotrax, have already
signed up for œ20 million worth of facilities.
