Lucy teaches John Sisk political correctness in the groves of academe

How do you get your oafish builder to behave like a considerate and civilised nineties 'new man'?

By sending him back to school, of course. Or to be more precise, a single-sex college at Cambridge. When John Sisk was taken on to build a œ2 million extension to the Lucy Cavendish college, the authorities were adamant that navvies were not going to make a nuisance of themselves by upsetting the mature female students living on the cramped site. A code of practice - agreed to by all tradesmen and employees - banned pin-ups, wolf whistles, general leering and unfitting language on pain of dismissal. By all accounts it is a roaring success. In the rare instance of a breach, one student was able to turn around and state, with great authority, 'you're not allowed to say that!'. The dumbstruck builder could only wipe the Dagenham smile off his face and agree.
