A recent opinion poll suggests that Labour now commands more
widespread support than any party has done since polling began 57
years ago. But would Labour be good for the construction
industry?
Paris Moayedi, chairman, Jarvis
Projects
The construction industry has always done a lot better under Labour
governments than under the Conservatives. Somehow most major firms
back the Conservatives, though, which is perhaps something more to
do with class than anything else. A change at this stage can't do
any harm at all.
Mike Smith, group
marketing director, Hall & Tawse
It's an unknown quantity really. If one takes at face value
everything that Tony Blair has stated then it should be good for
the industry, but whether the reality matches the promises remains
to be seen.
Allan Collins, managing director, Bison Structures
We would not want to lose revived developer confidence or suffer
more taxation for high achievers.
On balance, there would be no added benefit, unless they'd finally
stop subsidising steel imports.
