A recent opinion poll suggests that Labour now commands more widespread support than any party has done since polling began 57 years ago. But would Labour be good for the construction industry?

The construction industry has always done a lot better under Labour governments than under the Conservatives. Somehow most major firms back the Conservatives, though, which is perhaps something more to do with class than anything else. A change at this stage can't do any harm at all.

It's an unknown quantity really. If one takes at face value everything that Tony Blair has stated then it should be good for the industry, but whether the reality matches the promises remains to be seen.

We would not want to lose revived developer confidence or suffer more taxation for high achievers.

On balance, there would be no added benefit, unless they'd finally stop subsidising steel imports.
