Demolition man
After a night on the booze, Adam Greenwood, 22, missed his last bus
home. So what did he do? He muscled his way onto the nearest
construction site, started up a 25-ton tracked excavator and headed
for home.
Within minutes he'd flattened two Portakabin site offices, shunted
a weighbridge out of position, crushed computers and wrecked half a
dozen trees. The last act ripped the machine's oil pipes open and
brought the Liebherr's engine to a halt.
Greenwood's riot on the site of Burley in Wharfedale's new bypass
led to his appearance in York Crown Court last week where the cost
of the damage he caused was put at œ35,000.
A spokesman for Amey, contractor on the œ5.5 million 16-month
contract said: 'We trust the client will recognise the value of the
increased site clearance when finalising our account.'
Three months before this riot Greenwood had bunked off with someone
else's Land Rover without permission. For the latest bout of lunacy
Greenwood was jailed for three and a half years. OK now, anyone
want to throw away the key?
