Selecto Systems has further expanded its hot-box range with the
addition of a new 2.2m-long conveyor designed for use with both
single and twin chamber boxes.
A 10t, twin chamber Selecto STC07 hot-box, fitted with the new
conveyor, has been purchased by Kings Lynn-based reinstatement
contractor Kirchen, specifically for use on Norfolk County Council
contracts.
'In this format the hot box is ideal for trench and path work,'
says Selecto System's managing director Michael Hvid.
'It is fully height adjustable and can swing through 180deg,
enabling it to reach either side of the machine,' he adds.
The hydraulically driven conveyor is fitted with variable speed
control allowing the asphalt delivery rate to be regulated
precisely.
Additional hot-box features include Selecto's new gas Propamiser
system, push button electric controls and hydraulically operated
lids.
As well as well as curing one of the major failings on current
hot-boxes - flat batteries - the Propamiser non-electric gas system
reduces gas consumption by up to 50%.
'Should a flat battery occur, the solenoid is incapable of
relighting the gas and therefore the asphalt falls below the
required temperature. As well as possibly wasting asphalt, the only
solution the following morning is to jump start the carrier vehicle
or recharge the battery - both an unnecessary inconvenience,'
comments Hvid.
Recent changes in legislation means that those involved in
reinstatement work are having to look towards the hot-box as the
best way of complying.
'The beauty of the hot-box is that you know the temperature of the
asphalt in the late afternoon is going to be the same as when it
was put in first thing in the morning,' says Jim Kirchen of
Kirchen.
'We travel between 80 and 200km per day between reinstatements and
the dedicated lorry mounted hot-box with the conveyor is the only
way that this can be achieved,' Kirchen adds.
