œ78m Wirral terminal plan
Plans for a œ78 million ro-ro ferry terminal with a science
and business park and leisure facilities at Twelve Quays Dock,
Birkenhead, have obtained outline planning permission from Wirral
Council's Emergency Committee.
The scheme was put forward by developer London and General
Property. The company was selected as preferred developer by
Merseyside Development Corporation back in March. However, it is
not yet clear how the project will be funded.
The plans envisage a ro-ro freight terminal with a possible
passenger terminal to be built later. These would be built on a 6ha
site north of Wallasey Dock and on 3ha of land reclaimed from
Wallasey Dock itself.
The science park would occupy an 11ha site, featuring a technology
campus with sites and premises for research and business use.
