Medway Tunnel shape sinks in
The three 30,000-tonne reinforced concrete tube sections for the
œ70 million immersed tube Medway Tunnel in Kent have now been
floated out from the casting basin and submerged onto the river bed
as the crossing starts to take shape.
The half a mile long tunnel is being built under a design-build
joint venture by Tarmac HBM for Kent County Council. It will
provide a dual carriageway link that relieves the busy A2.
Work is now under way casting concrete for the approach retaining
walls on the portals.
The contract is due to be complete next year.
