l Two subcontractor umbrella bodies - CASEC and FASS - hailed the
Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors' revised form of
sub-contract as 'an historic occasion'. The most important change
in the new contract was the abandonment of 'pay when paid'
provisions.
l Wimpey embarked on a major shake-up of its UK construction
operations - an insider told CJ that the company had always had too
many people looking over other people's shoulders. A turnover of
œ1.4 billion had generated a disappointing profit of just
œ15 million.
l Richard Adamson, chairman of Newcastle-based housebuilder William
Leech, was heaved out of office just weeks after staving off a
œ21 million takeover bid by C H Beazer.
