Norwest wins M1 widening

Norwest Holst looks set to win the œ14-17 million M1 widening job between junctions 21 (M69) and 21A (A46) in Leicestershire.

The nine month contract will involve the construction of an additional lane to 4.5km of the existing motorway.

Extensive lengths of new retaining walls will have to be built, along with extensions to two existing underbridges. Other structures need to be strengthened and protected.

The remaining tenderers on the shortlist were Amec, Alfred McAlpine, Laing, Henry Boot and Trafalgar House.
