Cleveland sends steel to Kowloon
Cleveland Structural Engineering, part of Trafalgar House, has won
a œ30 million plus contract to fabricate, supply and erect
16,000t of steel on the extension to the Hong Kong Convention and
Exhibition Centre. The award is for main contractor Dragages et
Travaux Publics and Hip Hing Construction.
The 50m high steel and concrete frame extension at Victoria Quay in
Kowloon, will double the existing capacity of the centre by
providing an extra 322,800m2 of space.
Cleveland's contract is divided into three main sections: an atrium
linking the old and new building; several storeys of the new
extension; and an intricate curved structure for the roof with a
large suspended steel canopy.
The extension will provide three halls with 28,000m3 of space, and
32,280m2 of meeting rooms, conference hall and other facilities.
The roof features a bird's wing design.
