Schal appointed to opera house work
Schal International, part of Tarmac Professional Services, is to be
appointed construction manager for the œ150 million
redevelopment of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London.
The aim is to start work in 1996, close the opera house in 1997 for
rebuilding and complete all works in autumn 1999. However, funding
is dependent on winning finance from the Arts Council of England's
National Lottery Board.
The five year project involves the reconstruction of the stage
areas and flytower, and the refurbishment of the existing
auditorium and adjacent Floral Hall. A second auditorium will also
be created.
