Chunnel bill gets second reading

The Channel Tunnel Rail Link Bill has had its second reading in the House of Commons this week unopposed, but MPs from both sides of the House called for the construction of an international station on the line at Stratford in east London.

Roads Minister John Watts confirmed that the bill, which authorises the construction of the œ2.7bn link, still allows the option of the Stratford station.

A Commons and a Lords committee will now examine the link proposal.
