Ugly features
If it was possible to libel an industry or a type of worker, then
the construction world could be making even more use of the legal
system by firing letters into the London Evening Standard and its
weekly ES magazine.
Last week's ES had the same old boring feature about the much
maligned journalist who employed builders who ruined his life and
played Radio One loudly all day (unforgivable)!
The story was one of woe. But it prompted ES to condemn the whole
industry and describe all builders as incompetent fraudsters and
crooks who never do a decent job. Give it a rest.
Much the same tale was told by swimmer Nick Gillingham in The Sun.
But at least the tabloid had the decency to give space to the NHBC
and its guarantees.
