DoE records drop in new orders
November 1994 orders for new infrastructure were 52% down on the
previous year and 36% lower than three months before, says the
Department of the Environment in its monthly new construction
orders bulletin.
This drop, coupled with a 26% year on year decrease in public
housing orders mean that overall work won by contractors in the
three months to November was 6% lower than in the previous three
months and 12% lower than in the previous year.
'There are signs that earlier levels of improvement in certain
sectors are not being maintained,' said the DoE.
