TayWood to build US-style arena
Taylor Woodrow is to build the œ10 million concert arena in
Newcastle under a design and build contract. The fast track scheme
will get underway this month and is due to open in the autumn.
The 10,500-seat indoor arena will be 500ft by 200ft lightweight
structure, based on designs already used in the US.
The arena will be built on the former Forth Street railway goods
yard, close to the Redheugh Bridge in the heart of Newcastle. The
project is being developed by Park Arena and will be operated by
Ogden Entertainment Services, the US leisure company. Ogden will be
major funders of the scheme, along with the Tyne and Wear
Development Corporation which is offering a grant of up to
œ2.5 million.
