Balfour Beatty Projects and Engineering has been awarded a œ25 million turnkey contract to build a new power station for PowerGen CHP.

Balfours will design, build, construct, install, commission, test and hand over a combined heat and power plant at the Iggesund Paperboard Company, Workington, Cumbria.

Completion is due in December 1996.

The scheme comprises an LM6000 gas turbine capable of providing 42MW of electricity generation and an auxiliary fired waste heat recovery boiler which will supply steam for the paper making process.

Gas compressors, a water treatment plant, fuel oil storage facilities and other associated civil works are also required.
