Birse targets Scot water by joining B+B
Birse has joined forces with Bilfinger + Berger to bid for
privately funded water projects in the UK. The group will target
the Scottish water market through build, own, operate, transfer
(BOOT) and build, own, operate (BOO) schemes. They intend to use
Schroders as their financial adviser.
The water industry in Scotland is due to be reorganised from April
1996 with responsibility for the provision of water services
passing to three new water authorities from the local and regional
councils.
Birse Group chairman Peter Birse said: 'Over the next few years the
Scottish water industry will need to spend in excess of œ500
million on capital schemes. We have the expertise to ensure this
work can be achieved at a most economical rate for the consumer and
without adding to the Government's borrowings.'
Bilfinger + Berger has been involved in funding and operating
public service projects with a capital value up to œ200
million.
