Last year David Leane, head of William Leane Scaffolding, was stiffly punished for running a phoenix scam to escape his debts. Leane admitted evading tax and VAT to the tune of œ300,000. He was jailed for three years and banned from being a company director for a decade. William Leane scaffolding was established in 1990 and liquidated two years later; but six months before its demise he set up David Lean Scaffolding Leeds. This had a winding up order issued against it. Another company set up in late 1988 was closed in December 1993.
