Balfour Beatty wins M25 work
Balfour Beatty has been confirmed as the winner of the M25 design
and build widening contract between junctions 8 (Reigate) and 10
(Wisley). Its fixed price, œ93.4 million bid is some œ13
million over the estimated œ80 million cost price.
The design work is being undertaken by Gifford and Partners in
association with Frank Graham and Partners.
Graham replaces the original design partner team from Travers
Morgan, following the latter's move into administrative
receivership last year.
The team will spend the next few months completing the design work
and begin construction in the summer.
The work involves widening 19km of motorway to dual four lane
within the existing highway boundary, adding new hard shoulders and
strengthening 37 existing bridges.
The drainage system will be modified and renewed to meet NRA
requirements.
