DUTIES OF PLANNING SUPERVISOR AND PRINCIPAL CONTRACTOR


The duties to be performed by the planning supervisor and principal contractor are complementary and include the following:

n Where more than one designer and one contractor is involved in the project, the planning supervisor has to co-ordinate the health and safety aspects of the project design and planning and ensure co-operation between designers while the principal contractor has to ensure co-operation between all contractors and, where necessary, give reasonable directions to the contractors to enable the principal contractor to comply with his duties;

n the planning supervisor has to ensure a health and safety plan and health and safety file are prepared and the health and safety file contains information regarding any cleaning work to a project as well as construction work and is handed over to the client on completion of each structure comprised in the project.

The principal contractor has to take over and develop the health and safety plan prior to commencement of the construction works and provide information to the planning supervisor to up-date the file; and

n the planning supervisor must notify the executive of the project and the principal contractor must ensure all contractors receive adequate health and safety training and information.
