A50 delays for Kier/C&N
Contractor Kier/Christiani & Nielsen has been granted a 10 week
extension on a œ30 million phase of the A50 in Stoke-on-Trent
after work fell behind schedule due to problems with mine workings.
A request for a further extension has been turned down.
Transport lab to be sold
The Transport Research Laboratory is to be sold this year,
Transport Secretary Brian Mawhinney said this week. The laboratory,
which employs 400 staff, provides government with advice, research
and consultancy on transport issues. It has an annual turnover of
œ30 million.
Tsing Ma in a spin
Work on the œ4.6 billion Tsing Ma bridge reaches an important
milestone this week when the contractor Anglo-Japanese Construction
completes aerial spinning of the two main suspension cables.
M77 under pressure
Labour Councillors in Strathclyde region will come under renewed
pressure from the Labour Party to stop the construction of the M77
and M74 motorways after party delegates voted for a moratorium on
new road building at their party conference in Inverness this week.
Service for Lord Taylor
A memorial service in honour of Lord Taylor of Hadfield, founder
and life president of the Taylor Woodrow Group was held at St
Martins in the Field Church, Trafalgar Square, London WC2 this
week.
Keller buys CMG
Keller has acquired concrete repair and maintenance company CMG, to
strengthen its repair division. The new company will form part of
Keller and will be based at Keller's Coventry office.
Persimmon profit
Housebuilder Persimmon has announced pre-tax profits of œ25.2
million in 1994 up from œ16.2 million in 1993 - an increase of
55% - and completed a record 3,165 homes.
Ucatt court decision
A High Court ruling on whether the Ucatt lay general council acted
properly in suspending the union executive council for alleged
maladministration is expected by today (16 March). A court hearing
started last week but was suspended after the executive's counsel
lost his voice.
