Declining power station build

A Department of Trade and Industry review setting out various energy scenarios for reducing carbon dioxide emissions has speculated that traditional power station construction could drop dramatically in the foreseeable future.

The report sees a drop in coal power station construction and adds: 'There is no projected build of new nuclear capacity beyond Sizewell B in any of the scenarios.'

A DTI spokeswoman said that this was an opinion and that the future of the nuclear programme was still undergoing a separate review.

The status and publication date of the nuclear review has not yet been decided.
