Bluewater Pk begins Jan 96
Major construction work on the œ300 million Bluewater Park
scheme, near Dartford in Kent is set to start in January 1996,
according to developer Lend Lease Global Investment. The developer
is in discussion with a number of leading contractors to manage the
construction work. Bovis and Laing are thought to be among
them.
The announcement follows planning approval of amendments to the
scheme by Dartford Borough Council. The park remains the same size
but the configuration of some of the elements has changed.
The park is set to become one of the last major out-of-town retail
projects in the UK, if the DoE persists in its campaign to halt
their spread.
The Bluewater scheme comprises some 162,000m2 of shops in a
two-storey covered mall, 12,500m2 of leisure facilities and parking
for thousands of vehicles. The scheme is to be set in a landscaped
environment with lakes.
