The Party's over for Gummer

Once again CJ's picture caption competition prompted a flood of faxes to our office. We asked what karaoke song Environment Secretary John Gummer was blasting out prior to being gunged from the tank above him.

Some of you have a strange idea of music, and thanks to all those who wrote their own lyrics - unprintable of course.

From the optimists in our midst (Stuart Smith and Jim Brookman of Amec Services) we got 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' while a more representative view was put forward by R Robinson of Robinson (Builders) with this triple effort: Gummer is singing 'Take Me Home' followed by 'Help' while everyone else sings 'Hit the Road, Jack'.

And Robert Edwards of Chris Smith Building suggests the pragmatic Stylistics hit 'I can't give you anything but my love'.

But the winner of a bottle of bubbly is Mervyn Lambert of Mervyn Lambert Plant. He reckoned Gummer was seeing the demise of the Tories by singing 'The Party's Over'.
