HSE prosecution over crane failure
The HSE is prosecuting John Mowlem Construction and Derek Shilling,
md of Structural Steel Fabrications of Maidstone Kent, after the
jib of a mobile crane failed while lifting a prefabricated room to
the top of a steel framed tower during work at Lydd Army camp in
Kent.
The HSE is alleging that the jib of the crane failed due to
maintenance defects and because the load being lifted exceeded the
safe working load of the crane.
The cases are due to be heard at Folkestone Magistrates Court on 31
May and 1 June.
