Stonegrave buys in Komatsu WA470-3s
Stonegrave Aggregates of Aycliffe in County Durham has recently
purchased a fleet of three of the latest Komatsu WA470-3 wheeled
loaders from Marubeni-Komatsu to handle domestic limestone.
The new machines, built at the Hanomag factory in Germany, have
replaced previous model Komatsu loaders.
Company boss, John Wade said: 'I purchased my first Komatsu
machines back in 1986 and have run them ever since. We currently
run 13 excavators, four loaders and two dozers.'
The WA470-3 is powered by a Komatsu S6D125 turbocharged, 6-cylinder
diesel developing 194kW at 2,200rpm, driving through a fully
automatic 4-speed 'softshift' transmission.
Weighing 23.1t, the WA470-3 features an automatic power system
(APS). This intelligent hydraulic system decides whether to provide
maximum power or speed, depending on working conditions.
The units supplied to the aggregates company are equipped with 4m3
capacity buckets and are currently helping with the extraction of
some 750,000t of roadstone a year from two quarry faces.
