Unveiling Mansell's green period
What have Croydon-based contractor R Mansell and Pablo Picasso got
in common?
Not a lot. But last week Mansell hosted a private viewing of the
exhibition of works by Picasso which has marked the opening of the
town's new Clocktower art gallery. Mansell is one of the corporate
sponsors of the Croydon arts centre. Managing director Geoffrey
Bell explains: 'We believe in supporting the local community in
this kind of way.'
By chance, the Croydon event coincided with the sale in New York of
a Picasso portrait from his Blue Period for close on œ20
million. Construction is still going through its own Blue Period.
And Mansell might even be green at the thought of that kind of
margin on its œ100 million annual turnover.
