Kent road protesters halt start on the A299
Roads protesters launched a war of attrition against the
construction of the œ65 million A299 Thanet Way in Kent this
week.
Workers for main contractor Kier Hochtief met a barrage of action
from protesters as they attempted to set up the site. Work is due
to start at the end of the month.
Work was halted on three consecutive days as protesters occupied
machinery and two houses scheduled for demolition. Police made 13
arrests under the Criminal Justice Act.
Protesters this week pledged to carry on their opposition to the
project.
The contractors refused to comment on the demonstrations.
