Eastern Electricity goes for 6 wheels

Watling JCB, sole JCB distributor for the East Midlands and East Anglia, has supplied Eastern Electricity with a specially commissioned JCB Fastrac tractor to meet its specific on-and off-road requirements.

The distinctive machine is a Fastrac 155 designed with six wheels, instead of the conventional four, and built with an extended chassis to accommodate a truck load deck, capable of carrying five poles for overhead line construction, and a Hiab crane with earth drill.

The Fastrac joins Eastern's existing fleet of 4WD lorries currently used for building overhead power lines. Low ground pressure and good land clearance were features that played a key part in Eastern's decision to buy the Fastrac machine.
