Leyland Daf for Ashbourne

Armed with 12m all-steel tipper bodies and grab cranes, six Leyland Daf 75-270 26t trucks have been supplied to Ashbourne Civil Engineering, London, under a seven-year contract hire agreement with Ryder.

The units are being used to carry out cable-laying and other civil engineering work. The new vehicles join Ashbourne's 16-strong fleet of grab trucks. Two will be based at the company's south London depot in Sutton, Surrey. The other four are being shared by Ashbourne's seven other depots based throughout the UK.

Construction manager for London South, Kevin Tester, said: 'These new six-wheelers from Ryder are ideally suited to our requirements. High bodied, they have the ability to work and manoeuvre in confined spaces in built up areas without causing traffic congestion. This is a facility no eight-wheeler could provide and they are proving much faster on turn around.'

The units average around 1,000km a week.
