Sidewinder does its level best
Bedfordshire-based Relay Roads, which has been using its Sidewinder
offset placing machines on contracts throughout the UK for the last
four years, is currently using the machine on the A19 Peterfee
contract.
The contract involves two Sidewinders placing and grading granular
materials and Asphalt to the required levels. Outputs of materials
placed and graded have gone as high as 1,600t in nine hours, but
practical quantities are claimed to average around 600 - 800t per
day.
The Sidewinder is designed to place and grade material from 175mm
wide to 3 metres wide and from 200mm above road level to 750mm
below road level.
Suitable for road widening, french drain reinstatement and central
reservation hardening, the machine is also used for the profiling
of 'V's and crowns to central reserves and verges.
A 'V' formed compactor is used to preserve 'V's formed by the
Sidewinder. A variable blade can be adjusted to create whatever
angle or crown is required.
