London gives advice to Berlin
Berlin, the most vibrantconstruction scene in Europe, has turned to
the British construction industry to learn how to keep its busy
contractors in line. Following the consultation, it emerged this
week that is to introduce a considerate contractor scheme modelled
on the Corporation of London awards.
The Corporation's planning chairman Barbara Newman and assistant
city engineer, Terry Hines, flew to Berlin last week at the
invitation of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce to advise on setting
up the scheme.
Afterwards Hines told CJ: 'Something drastic needs to be done to
clean up the streets of Berlin.'
East Berlin's frenzy of modernisation has led to extensive
disruptions as buildings and roadworks are re-vitalised.
