Govt to look into Norfolk DLO award

The Government has confirmed that it is to investigate the award by Norfolk County Council of its highway maintenance contract to its in-house DLO.

The FCEC complained to the DoE that the award was unfair because five shortlisted tenderers withdrew when they were refused information necessary for the bid. The DoE last week told the FCEC it would take up the complaint.

'We want the work to be re-tendered and ideally the DLO will not be allowed to bid,' said the FCEC's Jim Turner. 'It's œ6.5 million of work a year.'

And the FCEC last week made a formal complaint to the DoE about Lewisham's award of its maintenance work to Lewisham DirecTeam.

The FCEC claims that the scheme was not advertised widely enough and so contractors could not bid.
