CJ and BackBites always endeavour to ensure that all the
information we publish is accurate and in no way misleading, and it
is normally disappointing to receive letters pointing out our
errors. We say 'normally' because this letter of complaint from Jim
Dinnigan of Balfour Kilpatrick cabling division cheered our
day.
Dear Sirs,
Re: Sheffield United, John Street Stand
With reference to the article and picture featured in CJ, 22 June
1995, 'John Mowlem Construction has won two stadia contracts in
Yorkshire...'
I feel that I must point out two major inaccuracies featured in the
picture accompanying the aforementioned article.
1. The formation of the players shown is incorrect. All Sheffield
United's outfield players should be bunched together in the penalty
area waiting for the goalkeeper to punt the ball up field.
2. There is a major design fault with the stand. It is facing the
pitch!
I trust that you will print a full apology in due course.
Yours etc
Jim Dinnigan

CJ replies: We do indeed apologise in full for such crass errors.
It is our policy to scrutinise text and pictures to eradicate such
obvious mistakes - just recently an illustration showing Manchester
United with all 11 players still on the pitch was spotted at the
last minute, as was another showing Leicester City on the attack.
We would like to plead that in this case we mistook Sheffield
United for Sheffield Wednesday, but obviously the same criticism
would have been levelled at the picture.
